High-energy course for busy educators teaching or leading ELD ready to implement systematic, meaning-based ELD for all students grades TK-8. We’ve designed this class to support you in providing ELD instruction anchored in research-based strategies, focused on acquisition in listening, speaking, reading and writing, and a focus on providing students acquiring English with learning experiences saturated with meaning and engaged in content learning.

*Participants will need to attend both classes and write a plan of action for implementation in their classroom or school.

Need help with how to teach integrated ELD?

High-energy course for busy educators grades TK-12 who need help with ensuring students acquiring English are active and engaged during whole group instruction. You need to make sure students are advancing in their skills to listen, speak, read and write in English through an asset-based lens. We’ve designed this class to support you in providing integrated ELD instruction anchored in research-based strategies, ensuring students understand the whole group lessons and develop vocabulary and language during instruction throughout the day.

I learned to continue giving quality first time instruction by using strategies to support my ELD students. Excellent class all teachers who teach English learners should take this course on ELD.

About Nancy Akhavan

Dr. Nancy Akhavan possesses more than thirty years’ experience as an educator and consultant. Her work focuses on student support through literacy instruction and intervention, English Language Development, leadership development, and organizational systems to increase student achievement. An Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at California State University, Fresno, she is the founder of Nancy Akhavan Consulting, Inc. Dr. Akhavan’s positions included: bilingual teacher; principal of three schools; and district administrator of a large, urban district for English Language Acquisition (ELA), Math, Social Studies, Science, and World Languages. She also served as Assistant Superintendent Secondary Division in a large urban school district. Dr. Akhavan is recognized for her expertise in teaching literacy practices and has published twelve books that focus on instruction to increase student achievement. She has worked with districts and county offices nationally and internationally to increase student achievement in reading, writing, and in content areas
